Both of these can influence the post-event ratings for an event (as well as the pre-event ratings for following events). Rerating aims to solve both difficulties. Rerating recalculates the ratings from events after reordering them and taking into account any corrections, in other words, what they should have been if every event was received in the sequence in which it is rated and if every event was received error-free.

According the US Chess regulation, events played with a total time control of Game/30 through Game/65 (i.e., each player gets 30-65 minutes, including the increment or delay setting) shall be rated as both regular and rapid chess events. This is not a choice; all events played within those time limits will be dual-rated.
